The Sound of Autumn Gabi Fury

By: Woodrow Lucas

I have heard so many sounds over the years,

I have heard the Lord’s voice, not just in my mind but in my ears,

I have heard snakes that have dragged me to hell,

I have heard angels give me guidance on how to escape,

But there is a sound that soothes me like no other,

I hear it in my daughters often,

And I hear it now, in these words as they speak to me from the page,

I have heard so many sounds over the years,

I have heard the Lord’s voice, not just in my mind but in my ears,

But there is a sound that soothes me like no other,

It is the sound of brilliance,

It is the sound of a human heart and mind making love in only that way that makes a song, a poem, a sermon, a concerto, a masterpiece dripping from the lips of my spoken word Autumn, making the world recognize her fury,

For she is furious and brilliant,

It is the sound of my little Gabi, explaining nuances about God to me that adults don’t dare examine,

I have heard so many sounds in my life,

But I tell you there is no sound like the human spirit, convincing a heart and mind to work in unison to create beauty,

I hear a human spirit in my ears constantly,

Guiding me through the madness to the brilliance that awaits me,

His name is Jesus and I love him.
