Friendship the Great

By: Woodrow Lucas

I was a warrior of old, slinging light against darkness, and I got wounded so wounded,

And I could see my Savior nowhere,

But I caught hold of my brother and he led me to safety,

What you have done unto the least of these my brethren you have unto me,

Many a man’s prayers have saved my life a thousand times,

And many a woman’s words have saved my soul a hundred,

One can turn away a thousand, but two ten thousand,

I was a warrior of old slinging light against darkness and I got wounded so wounded,

And I could see my savior nowhere,

But I caught hold of my sister and she led me to safety,

God created friendship for it is not good for man to be alone,

Sometimes in our lives things get down right rough,

I mean tough and the love of Jesus just isn’t enough,

For we are of dust,

And sometimes we need to see, we need to feel, we need to speak, we need to heal,

Sometimes the dagger of bitterness has so wounded our imagination,

That only the soft sounds of a child’s voice are enough to reach us,

Romance is powerful true,

For one turns away one thousand, but two ten thousand,

But I was married for 16 years and then we divorced,

But we stayed friends because it is easier to kill romance than friendship,

Friendship proves Universalism, for an atheist and a believer can share great love,

And please God in the reckoning,

Friendship proves that God is too big for one religion, because a Jew and a Muslim can be great friends,

And please father Abraham in that reckoning,

And after Agape, abideth these two Philos and Eros,

But the greatest of these is true friendship,

I was a warrior of old, slinging light against darkness,

And I could see my savior nowhere,

But true friendship saved me,

For unconditional love is the greatest of loves and greater love has no man than to die for his brethren,

When Jesus was about to die in darkness, he prayed for his friends,

The love platonic is ever living,

For the shadow of age and withering cannot change it!!

The love platonic is ever living,

The love platonic between Guru and Disciple, sister and sister, brother and brother, is invincible!!

When a parent has raised a child and that child is of age,

If they are wise then friendship rules the day,

Sometimes in our lives things get down right rough,

I mean tough, and the love of Jesus just isn’t enough,

Sometimes in our lives that still small voice,

Does not solve the riddle and most difficult choice,

But God has given us the mercy of friendship,

For we are of the dust,

And sometimes dust needs solid form to become a living soul,

Sometimes God breathes into us through the eyes of kindness and the ears of compassion,

For it is not good for man to be alone,

Sometimes she needs a sister with whom to shed a tear,

The Holy Ghost is living water, but sometimes we need a water that can satisfy our physical thirst,

We need to hear,

We need to see,

We need to touch,

We need to hug,

We need to love,

Sometimes friendship is God’s mercy for the child whose imagination is not yet strong enough to see angels,

I was a warrior of old, slinging light against the darkness,

And I got wounded, so wounded,

And I could see my Savior nowhere,

But friendship saved me,

Sometimes in our lives, things get down right rough,

I mean tough,

And the love of Jesus just isn’t enough,

For we are dust after all,

God is the greatest gift that I have ever been given,

But too she gave me friendship,

To remember her kindness when my soul is too weary to hear her directly,

There is none greater than the Lord,

But too he gave us friendship,

Through which we can see him in the kindness of our brother and the love of our sister,

Friendship proves Universalism,

For an atheist and a believer can share great love and please God in that reckoning,

Friendship proves that God is too big for one religion, because a Jew and a Muslim can be great friends and please Father Abraham in that reckoning!!!

The greatest of gifts is Agape but after that Philos and Eros,

And the greatest of these is true friendship.

I am a great man, but I am no island,

And even Gurus have disciples and vice versa,

It is not good for man to be alone,

So God gave us friendship to celebrate the good times and weep and mourn the hard,

Eros love is beautiful, but even romance if it is true is built on friendship,

For beauty fades and wrinkles form and bodies wither but true friendship lasts forever,

Jesus is my Lord, but he’s my best friend too,

I am a warrior of light and sometimes I get wounded,

But friendship heals me every time,

In all you do, seek the Love of God, but also seek true friendship,

For when you are wounded and forget how much God loves you,

It will see you through to the other side,

Worldly riches are wonderful, but true friendship is priceless,

Sometimes in our lives, things get down right rough,

I mean tough and so Jesus shows his love for us,

By giving us true friends that get us through the darkness!!
