The Whirlwind

By: Woodrow Lucas

You are what you study,

You are what you see,

I see maelstroms of children on swings,

Just a push, and they’re off to the sky,

We never die, we just transition, listen.

There is a storm of such unyielding impact that it decimates all that it touches,

I have been in the center of that nightmare.

You are what you see,

I see maelstroms of children, living storms about to ignite into great men and women,

Just a little push is all they need and they’re off to the sky,

This generation questions, this generation tests edges, this generation will define a new torrent, living tornados with the ability to reconstruct a culture,

You are what you study,

You are what you see,

I see maelstroms of NFL football players taking a knee,

I see maelstroms of young African-Americans with black lives matter t-shirts on,

I see maelstroms of battered girlfriends hitting their boyfriends over the head with frying pans before they call the cops,

I see maelstroms of young gay couples saying I do at river weddings and becoming one flesh in the mystery of God’s monstrous love,

You are what you study,

You are what you see,

There is a storm of such unyielding impact that it decimates all that it touches,

I have been in the center of that nightmare and in that death, I sowed life with every bit of conviction that I could muster,

I have sown the wind, I shall reap the whirlwind,

You are what you study,

You are what you see,

I see a whirlwind once called the Paraclete in times past,

I see a whirlwind of epic proportion, redefining, rerouting, redistributing, regenerating,

Any object has infinite velocity and infinite relative velocity,

You are what you study,

You are what you see,

I see an infinite object moving in infinite directions at infinite speeds and as I worship it, it becomes me,

The whirlwind comes from thunder and rain and pain that we endure with resilience,

The whirlwind is the ability of a paraplegic to run a marathon simply through the power of prayer,

The whirlwind is groups of thirty somethings sitting in circles and imagining racism disappearing from the earth,

The whirlwind is Einstein imagining genius into reality,

The whirlwind is a psychic telling a dying man that he will another thousand years and his body instantaneously healing itself in that reckoning,

The whirlwind is Baptists and Episcopalians praying to Yogananda to give them all the good that God gave him when he was on the earth,

The whirlwind is air, fire, water, earth and infinite love moving in infinite directions at infinite velocity,

You are what you study,

You are what you see,

There is a storm of such unyielding impact that it decimates all that it touches,

I have been in the center of that nightmare and in that death, I sowed life with every bit of conviction that I could muster,

I have sown the wind, I shall read the whirlwind,

You are what you stuy,

You are what you see,

I see maelstroms of children on swings,

Just a push and they’re off to the sky,

Young tornadoes with the power to tear down strongholds and help the lost see beauty,

You are what you study,

You are what you see,

This generation will bring the whirlwind, and darkness will not survive its wake!!
